I discovered how typing two minus signs, gave me an EM-dash. That made me really happy. In Dutch though, we rarely (if ever) use the EM-dash, but the EN-dash is really common. For as far as I can find, there is no key combo for the EN-dash.
Here's my suggestion:
  1. Have the combination "-." turn into an EN-dash
  2. Have a documentation page showing all the autoreplace features available
... or if you want to make it more generic, have a setting where every author can implement "autoreplace" strings (and already include the ones that are now in use by default). This way an author in any language can tweak to it's heart's desire.
