Ability to move chapters and scenes easily

I would like to be able to easily move scene beats to a new chapter as I go back and expand a portion, or write a new chapter in-between two other chapters. Basically, that I could tell the system where chapter 3 begins, and it will automatically take the current chapter 3 and make it chapter 4, chapter 4 becomes 5, etc. As it is, I have to manually move each scene beat and scene description one by one. If someone knows how to do this better, let me know because I'm tempted to go back to Atticus as my primary writing template which would completely negate the purpose of Novelcrafter.

Drag/drop is so hard on mobile. It would be so nice if renaming a chapter moved it to that spot, or if there was an option like 'Move before...' 'Move after...'

I'd add in that now that I have a lot of scenes, dragging and dropping can get inconvenient (dragging and scrolling all over to find where it goes and often dropping it in the wrong place). I often wish I could just go to the action menu of the scene and find a 'move' function to select a different chapter, or a move up/down option to move within the chapter.
If I'm in write mode and realize a scene needs to be moved, I have to go to plan, scroll to find the scene and move it. And even more steps if I have the Acts collapsed, because a scene can't be dragged into a collapsed Act (but I keep the collapsed all the time because otherwise it's soooo much scrolling :D )

Drag handles in write mode for schemes.

You can move the scenes, chapters and acts around on the plan view using the little drag handles. Does that not work for you?

spaceemotion No, that does work, but what I mean is that I normally just go type in "Chapter 3" into the document and then go back through and change every other chapter to one number ahead of what it was. I can't figure out how to do that if I decide to split a current chapter in half or if I expound on a chapter enough to make it into two chapters.

Maroon Goat You don't need to name chapters by hand. The system automatically numbers chapters for you. And if you have chapters like Epilogue or Prologue you can even disable numbering for those.

spaceemotion I am not naming chapters by hand. I do that in other programs like google docs. What I am saying is that I can't take a chapter that is already written, decide I want to divide it into two chapters, and then have the system create a new chapter at the break I tell it to.
spaceemotion
Maroon Goat Ah yes, inserting scene/chapter breaks is already a requested feature, and on the list.

Basically, I have to create a new chapter in the planning section, which automatically puts it as the last chapter, Copy and paste over scenes from the chapter I want to split, move it into the correct position, and then go back into the writing portion and start manually Copying over all of the scene beats and actual story to that new chapter.

Great, also, can you guys fix this chat window. It cuts off the last word or two. Also, it doesn't give me a notification when you have responded and I have to go back to the help section, navigate to browse feature requests and then I might see a notification alert on the bell icon. But in these brief replies it didn't do it every time. A pop up in novelcrafter would be helpful.

Maroon Goat . If you disable and re-enable numeration it recalculates from the beginning, I think. I remember doing that.
