I would pay extra for this feature especially if it worked well similar to Speechify or even better, ELEVENLABs which is excellent.
Currently I copy and paste into Google Docs which has a relationship with Speechify. That way I can listen and edit at the same time. Microsoft word, the read aloud is horrible.

There is a work around. Open Novel Crafter in chrome and get the Speechify extension. This works pretty well. I've been using it the last 2 hours and it makes readability editing so much easier.
Takes a fiddling because it often does try to start at the beginning of each scene. After you hit the play button, hover near where you want to start and make a second "Play" click next to the paragraph to redirect the reading.
So much better than Word.

I would love for there to be a feature that would allow Novelcrafter to read back what is written, and to have the option to have AI responses read back. I digest thing far more easily when someone is speaking, I have a degree of dyslexia and it can be difficult for me to read things sometimes, although it usually doesn't stop me from writing. I would pay extra for a feature like that.

Okay Tapir
Speechify works great now and the ai voices are great

I can't imagine an audio text reader that works better than Speechify - extremely lifle-like sounding and finally stable. Be great if there was a working partnership between NC and them.

It’s been part of Mac OS and IOS for years but in iOS you need to turn it on. For iOS go to settings, accessibility, live speech. I use an enhanced version of Kate, it’s like Kate but from Surrey. Select what you to hear and the bubble thing appears. Speak is further along the line from cut and paste etc. I think it’s permanently available in Mac OS, if not it’s probably in accessibility as well. No doubt google will explain all.

Bronze Loon I'm not sure how good Microsoft is but Microsoft has this under accessibility. Again, I don't know how good it is.

This is 100% needed. I keep copying and pasting chapters and it would help to have a native read aloud feature!

I use Speechify pretty religiously when brainstorming in my GPT Plus or Claude subscription. It seems to get very confused in NC as it constantly tries to scroll to the top of the Write section and gets stuck in a loop doing that.
I've found Speechify works really well for just hearing TTS and interacting with the AI voice, since it's unlimited TTS and doesn't matter how many characters you use, it's a fantastic tool for something like interaction, brainstorming and hearing the writing played back.

Amber Bass: I tried out Speechify in the past and already reported NC not working quite right. I might need to contact them on my own about this.

spaceemotion They've been pretty responsive to support requests and community features. I've used them for a few months and it's only gotten better. Have listened to a bunch of stories from Royal Road on there, otherwise the GPT features and Chrome Extension they've put out have also been great. Would be amazing to see if they are able to make it worth with NC!

Amber Bass I sent off a sales request, let's see if the issues can be resolved. I just tested it on my own novel and yeah - it totally breaks and even crashed my tab.

This can easily cost a lot more than the AI services we are currently using. There are some free options, but they normally suffer from monotone voices and terrible punctuation.
